James Brown scoops bronze at Paralympics

Smartline would like to congratulate our client, James Brown, who is visually impaired, and his sighted pilot Damien Shaw from Mullingar who together clocked a time of 31:13.00 to secure their place on the podium. 

The 47 year-old is competing in his fifth Paralympic Games having represented Great Britain previously at both summer and winter Paralympic Games in athletics, cross-country skiing and the biathlon. This is his third medal but the first for 28 years when in his first Paralympic Games in 1984 he won gold on the track (800m and 1500m).

Brown combines his sport with running a social enterprise and a software company but admits: “The cycling is a different ball game altogether. The passing of time and the elevation of Paralympic sport over all those years but I’ve never worked in an environment like this where we have proper professional coaching and sports science and medical back up.

Town is open for business, says MP

Politicians and business leaders helped to promote Tewkesbury at a champagne reception.

Around 120 people gathered for town MP Laurence Robertson's latest bid to spread the word that Tewkesbury is more than holding its own.

Keen to dispel any lingering rumours that it is struggling after the 2007 floods, he invited civic leaders and national politicians to the event at the House of Commons' Terrace Marquee.

A key speech was given by Sainsbury's representative Jamie Baker about why the retail giant had chosen Tewkesbury as a site for a hoped-for new store.

Mr Robertson said: "It was about promoting the area. The message is that, although we were flooded five years ago, we're fine now so come to Tewkesbury."

Sue Lambert, chairman of the Tewkesbury branch of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: "It was a really good opportunity to promote Tewkesbury further."

J9 Business Group meet at the Roses Theatre

In December Abid found himself centre stage at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury.

With no time for a dress rehearsal, Abid (pictured second from the right) was whisked away back stage to join members of the J9 Business Group. Attendees at the management team meeting were treated to the hospitality of theatre staff, and were made to feel stars of the show.

This year’s pantomime, Dick Whittington, has proved very popular. Reassuringly, Abid has confirmed that his business will be staying firmly put in Tewkesbury rather than following in the footsteps of Mr Whittington and his cat - moving to London to seek their fortune!

Smartline @ the B2B Tewkesbury Event

Smartline team work

Members of the Smartline team have been hard at work again, and have pulled off two successful B2B networking events in Tewkesbury aimed at promoting local businesses.

Smartline were chosen by Tewkesbury Borough Council as their preferred partner to organise and manage two B2B Networking events in the Borough this year.

Tewkesbury Park Hotel was the setting for the first successful event back in April, and following positive feedback from local businesses, a second event was organised at Hatherley Manor Hotel in November.

The most recent event attracted (number) individuals and (number) exhibitors and sponsors securing the future for a third event due to take place early next year at Winchcombe. Watch this space for details.

We have had such a hectic time this month getting ready for the Tewkesbury B2B Networking Event at Tewkesbury Park Hotel our feet have not touched the ground! 

It’s an event being organised by Tewkesbury Borough Council to bring local business people together, and is being hosted at Tewkesbury Park Hotel on 21 April 2010. 

We have been involved right from the start from designing and hosting the B2B website, organising the keynote speakers and specialist business advisers who will be on hand all day to offer free professional advice and guidance. This event brings together over 140 delegates, over 20 exhibitors and sponsors all under one roof. You can rely on us to take care of every last detail to guarantee a successful and enjoyable event. 

The day ran from 9.30 to 3:00 pm.

We thought Friday afternoon’s needed a helping hand, what with all the doom & gloom about in the media causing negative vibes, so we invited some of our old clients to come and meet some of our new ones for some nice food and a bit of social networking. Z & H Cuisine whom are a new client of Smartline provided the wonderful authentic Indian food which was loved by all, so big thanks to them. Over 30 people attended and the feedback was excellent, so as a result we are planning to do it again, so watch this space...
